DIS Series

Monessen's versatile vent-free insert fireplace offers the irresistible charm of an open fire with the high efficiency of a room heater. Monessen's vent-free insert provides supplemental heat without the hassles of wood, but with the realism of glowing coals and dancing yellow flames.

It is recommended that a fireplace screen be used during the operation of this log set. Always ensure the screen has adequate spaces to allow for the passage of combustion air into the gas log set.

Keep small children and animals away from the open flame of the gas log set at all times.

Mantels, Bases, Surrounds

Hearth bases are available for slim, deep wall and deep corner cabinets in unfinished oak, medium oak and red mahogany. Corner hearths and surrounds can be ordered with a dark cherry, unfinished birch, unfinished oak or honey oak finish. Petra (creamy salmon) hearth pads are offered with a golden oak or cherry trim. Hearths and surrounds are available for each model with varying finishes. Check the options for your model. You'll find mantel caps for peninsula models in golden oak or cherry finishes. Tile facings can be purchased for vent free and peninsula models in black, green or white marble, petra and granite colors.

Fireplace Accessories

All current Monessen model Direct Vent fireplaces have conversion kits available. Conversion kits are not available for vent free models.

Their millivolt units can be installed with either manual or thermostat hand-held remote controls. Wall-mounted switch kits and conventional wall-mounted thermostats are available.

The millivolt controlled units can be installed with both remote and wall thermostat installed to the same unit. Each of these switches is wired in parallel to the on/off rocker switch. As a rule, homeowners will opt for one or the other.

Blowers increase the airflow across the sides and top of the firebox inner chamber, promoting heat transfer from the fireplace. Blowers with thermal switches will actually cool these surfaces while operating; the surfaces will heat up again in the off cycle. A blower assembly without a thermal switch will facilitate the transfer of heat from the hot surfaces to the surrounding air.

The BTS, Blower Thermal Sensor, allows their blower-equipped fireplaces to cycle on and off, depending upon the temperature of the firebox inner chamber. Available as a factory or field-installed option, homeowners are saved the trouble of having to manualy control the blower at the wall or fireplace. DIS inserts come with this feature as standard.

All their blowers come standard with a reostat or variable control switch. A reostat allows homeowners to set the blower to any speed with the turn of a dial.

Hoods are recommended for Vent-frees and Direct vents, which are approved as heating appliances. Canopies will protect combustible materials above and close to the fireplace opening. See your dealer or the installation manual for clearances to mantles and trim. Decorative appliances, such as vented logs and class B-Vents fireplaces, do not need hoods.
